Sorotouch is an iPad application that allows you to learn mental calculations. Sorotouch has classroom lessons just like abacus classrooms. You may wonder how it is different. We will tackle the difference between Sorotouch and abacus in this article.
What is the difference between Sorotouch and abacus?
Sorotouch is a teaching software that allows kids to master mental calculations.
In Japanese, there’s a word for calculating using the abacus. It’s called [Shuzan]. Sorotouch is also utilizing that method of mental imagery.
Huh? Then isn’t that the same?
It may be hard to understand, but no worries, I’ll explain it step by step!
What are Abacus, Shuzan, and Mental Calculation?
A calculation method called, “Shuzan.”
To begin with, What’s the difference between Abacus and Shuzan?
An abacus is a tool for performing a method of calculation called “bead counting.”
It’s an old-school calculator that consists of five (5) beads per line.
The bead separated above represents (5), below represents (1), (2), (3), and (4).
You can use the first column of beads to count or compute until the number nine (9). the second column represents tens (10). Think of the columns as decimal places.
Shuzan by definition means calculating by using an Abacus. Sorotouch is a digitalized version of an Abacus. The main difference is, The application makes it more fun and engaging. It also has a recording function that allows us to monitor progress. The technology automatically creates a customized lesson plan for each student for individual progression.
Mental Calculation
Mental calculation is computing without any tools. No calculator, no abacus, just plain imagination.
It works by picturing an Abacus in your head. How many problems can you solve without any tools?
Did you know calculating mentally is faster than a calculator?
If you can Calculate with your head, you’ll excel in math.
Of course, you can also learn mental calculation by going to an Abacus school. So what’s the difference with Sorotouch?
You can learn mental calculations faster with Sorotouch!
What are the major differences in learning to calculate mentally?
- Kids can learn in a shorter period with Sorotouch
- Kids can calculate faster
A colleague of mine took three (3) years to master calculating mentally, but a kid in one of our classrooms can calculate better than her.
You can master mental calculation in two (2) years with Sorotouch. More so, some kids may master it faster. Looking at our records, It seems that learning Mental Calculation with Sorotouch is faster than with an Abacus classroom.
It’s time to calculate mentally with Sorotouch!
Abacus is done with one hand, while Sorotouch does it with both. The computation is much faster that way!
Dexterous is better! Let’s calculate fast with accuracy!
Summary: What is the difference between Sorotouch and Abacus?
Did you understand the difference between Sorotouch and an Abacus classroom?
- Both Sorotouch and the Abacus are based on the idea of bead counting.
- You can learn Mental calculation with both Sorotouch and an Abacus classroom.
- But you can learn it faster with Sorotouch.
Let’s equip our kids with the skill of a lifetime!
